BIG PILOT'S WATCH

Launched in 2002, the IWC Big Pilot watch is perhaps the most recognisable IWC watch. The oversized stainless steel case houses one of the largest automatic watch movements in the world - the IWC-manufactured 5111. This ultimate flying companion earned its name for the oversized crown, which enabled easy handling for pilots of the past who had to wear gloves in open air cockpits, and today gives diehard fans an indent in the wrist which they wear with pride. The reliability is enhanced by a 7 day power reserve.

FEATURES & SPECIFICATIONS

The Big Pilot's Watch was originated in 1940 and has significantly influenced the appearance of the current classic pilot's watches.

Now, over 70 years on, the latest model adds another chapter to the success of this unbelievable timepiece. Powered by a 51111-calibre executed entirely by IWC, this is the largest movement ever made by IWC and it unites some of watchmaking's greatest achievements.

In what seems like no time at all, the Pellaton pawl-winding system charge up the 7 Day power-reserve then the movement is mechanically brought to a halt by a intricate train in the power-reserve chamber after exactly 168 hours. By doing this, the movement is stopping itself before the tension in the spring is exhausted and thus eliminates the danger of diminishing torque in the mainspring. All of this ensures the same level of accuracy the whole time the watch is running.

The Big Pilot's Watch has a date display at "6 o'clock" and the central seconds which is essential for any watch used for flying. The 46mm case has the anti-magnetic properties famously made by IWC, to ensure there is no interference with it's accuracy.
