Officine Panerai presents the official watches of the 35th America’s Cup. A partnership between legends of the sea, a perfect balance between the past and future, between timeless passion and advanced technology.

Panerai Becomes Official Watch Partner of the 35th America’s Cup

Since 1851, brave sailors from around the world have competed for glory in what has become the most celebrated and prestigious sailing race in the world; the America’s Cup. In 2017, Swiss watch-maker Officine Panerai joins the field for the first time, as an Official Partner of the 35th America’s Cup, set to be raced in thrilling fashion in Bermuda. Panerai has also chosen to extend its partnership to include defending champion ORACLE TEAM USA. To commemorate the occasion, the company has, of course, created some limited-edition America’s Cup watches. You’ll find everything you need to know about them below.

Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 America’s Cup 3 Days Automatic Acciaio – 44mm

This is the official watch of the America’s Cup. A classic Panerai in every sense of the word, it comes in a 44mm stainless steel case and features the brand’s patented (and instantly recognisable) crown-protection lever device. Rated to a water resistance of 300m, the black “sandwich” dial keeps things clean and simple, displaying only the time and date, with the running seconds indicated by a red hand on the sub-dial at 9 o’clock. It’s surrounded by a polished bezel and the words “America’s Cup” are subtly printed in blue just above the 6 o’clock position. Animated by Panerai’s in-house, automatic Caliber P.9010, which offers a three-day power reserve, the movement is protected by a solid caseback engraved with the America’s Cup logo. Completing the look is a black, untreated leather strap stitched with red-and-blue thread and heat-embossed with the America’s Cup logo on both sides. Production of this model will be limited to just 300 pieces.

Panerai Luminor 1950 Oracle Team USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Ceramica – 44mm

As the defending champions, it seems only fair that Oracle Team USA gets three new timepieces. First up, is the 1950 Oracle Team USA 3 Days Chrono, presented in a very sporty-looking 44mm case made from a special synthetic ceramic obtained from zirconium oxide. The matte black case is light yet strong and is water-resistant to 100 meters. As the name suggests, this watch is equipped with a column-wheel chronograph, complete with flyback functionality, and operated by the pushers at 10 o’clock and 8 o’clock respectively. In addition to the central time-display, with small seconds at 9 o’clock, there is also a chronograph hour counter at 3 o' clock, and central chronograph seconds and minutes hands. A red tachymeter scale runs around the periphery of the dial and can be can be used to time the speed of a vessel in knots. Beneath the solid titanium caseback, which is embossed with the logo of Oracle Team USA and the inscription “35th America’s Cup”, beats the Caliber P.9100, an in-house, automatic chronograph movement offering 3 days of power reserve. Production of this model will be limited to just 200 pieces.

Panerai Luminor 1950 Regatta Oracle Team USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio – 47mm

If you’re a hard-core yachtsman, than this is probably going to be the model for you. It’s the only watch in the line up to offer a yachting-inspired regatta countdown function, which is operated by the pusher at 4 o’clock. Designed to be activated 15 minutes before, this count-down timer is critical to ensuring you start your race on time. The watch also offers the same fly-back chronograph functionality as the above model, however everything is now housed in a 47mm titanium case. As with all the Oracle Team USA editions, it has a solid caseback with a relief engraving of the team’s logo and an illustration of its trimaran boat. Inside is the in-house Caliber P.9100/R, which offers a power reserve of three days. Production of this model will be limited to just 200 pieces.

Panerai Luminor Marina Oracle Team USA 8 Days Acciaio – 44mm

Last but not least in the Team USA line-up, is the Panerai Luminor Marina Oracle Team USA 8 Days Acciaio. Presented in a 44mm stainless steel case, it is powered by the in-house, manual-winding P.5000 caliber, which boasts an impressive eight days of power reserve when fully wound. Similar in style to the official America’s Cup model, the watch features a matte black “sandwich” dial, with a contrasting blue seconds hand on the subdial at 9 o’clock and the words ‘America’s Cup’ printed just above six o’clock (also in blue). The case is water-resistant to 300 meters and features Panerai’s patented crown protector. As with the other models it’s worn on a black leather strap with red-and-blue stitching and a heat-embossed logo of the America’s Cup, and the caseback is engraved with a rendering of the team’s yacht. Production of this model will be limited to just 200 pieces.

These pieces will be available soon in very limited quantities. Please contact your nearest Watches of Switzerland to register your interest now.
