Here at Watches of Switzerland, we are very pleased to bring you the latest update from Panerai.
After only a few photos were released at SIHH 2015 (refer to our Instagram @watchesofswitzerland), no one really knew about this watch. It became a legend, before it was released. Now, Panerai has let the cat out of the bag and it is a big one.
Housed in a 48mm case, the PAM00577 (PAM577 for short) boasts the calibre P.3000 movement. Manual wind with a 3 Day power-reserve, the P.3 movement can be seen through the astonishing sapphire crystal case back and if you know your Panerai watches, you’ll notice it’s been ‘blackened’.
The case-back is actually made from titanium, as it is non-allergenic and then finished in a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating to match the black ceramic case. This is undoubtedly one of my favourite things about the watch as it has such a strong and muscular appeal to it not only from the back, from the front as well.

Unfamiliar with the term ‘sandwich dial’? Well, Panerai is somewhat famous for its use of the ‘sandwich dial’ and for good reason…it’s amazing. A ‘sandwich dial’ can be easily spotted by the 3D effect of the numerals (in this instance, batons and markers). They are cut out of a single dial, which is then placed on top of the ecru-tones Super-LumiNova. Why do this? Because, since the beginning of Panerai’s history they were made for Italian Navy SEAL divers as they needed to see their timepieces in murky water. As homage to this history, the PAM577 has the Siluro a Lenta Corsa above the 6 o’clock marker. The Siluro a Lenta Corsa is a slow-running human torpedo that the Italian operators nicknamed “maiale” which is Italian for “pig”.
This watch is special for many reasons but most of all for it's simplicity. Panerai has always been known for it's 'not messing around' attitude towards watch making; less is more. The PAM577 is so simple but anything more would ruin it. It is, quite simply, a brilliant watch.
Whilst this piece is not labeled as a limited edition, we imagine availability will be sporadic. Watches of Switzerland will be bringing you all the latest updates not only for this specific timepiece but all Panerai news.
