Introducing the Watches of Switzerland IWC Pilots Chronograph

The IWC Pilot’s Chronograph is without a doubt one of the most iconic pilot’s watches on the market today.

Known and loved the world over, it offers a distinctive blend of functionality and style that is instantly recognisable on the wrist. For our 20th Anniversary, we wanted to take this classic pilot’s watch and create something truly special for our valued clients who have supported us over the last two decades and hopefully continue to support us for many decades to come.

As some of you may already know, our relationship with IWC has been exceptionally long-standing and fruitful. Our Chairman and Founder, Eric van der Griend, was the original distributor for IWC in Australia up until Richemont purchased the brand in 2000. Likewise, our very first store in Perth was an authorised IWC retailer, and we have been proud to continue to partner with the brand here in Australia for the last twenty years. Throughout that time, we have had the privilege of introducing the brand to numerous new clients, hosting a wide variety of events and exhibitions making a significant contribution to IWC’s ever growing popularity in Australia.

Depending on how long you have been following our humble story, you may recall that for our 10th Anniversary in 2007 we were very fortunate to again work with IWC to create a Watches of Switzerland Limited Edition Portuguese Chronograph with a chocolate brown dial. We created 20 pieces in Steel and 5 in Rose Gold, and they were an instant hit. Ten years later, we wanted to create another special edition, this time 50 pieces, and again exclusive to Watches of Switzerland.

Collaborating closely with the brand, we have been able to develop a watch which we think will be a huge success in Australia. We have always loved IWC for its famous Pilots Watches , and the current Pilots Chronograph is very sought after. Mindful of the current passion for vintage inspired pieces, we wanted to create a piece which would be coveted in any watch collection, and be accessible for all our loyal customers.

Presented in a 43mm, stainless steel case, the Watches of Switzerland 20th Anniversary IWC Pilots Chronograph Limited Edition pairs a black dial with patina coloured Superluminova-coated hands and indices to create a vintage-inspired look. Hours and minutes are indicated centrally, with small seconds shown on the sub-dial at 9 o’clock and the day and date displayed through two windows at 3 o’clock. The sub-dials at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively display 30-minute and 12-hour counters for the chronograph, with a central hand in white for the chronograph seconds. Eagle-eyed enthusiasts will also note that the small-seconds hand is now in white, instead of the usual red.

Inside is the robust IWC 79320 Calibre, a self-winding chronograph movement beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph and offering a max power reserve of 44 hours. It’s protected against the effects of magnetism by IWC’s patented soft-iron inner case and is hidden away beneath a specially engraved, commemorative caseback, which includes the watch’s number in the limited series. Completing the design is a brown calf leather strap crafted by Santoni, which closes with a tang buckle for maximum comfort on your wrist.

We’re more than a little bit proud of this vintage-inspired, limited edition watch we’ve created with our long-term partner, IWC, and we’re think you’re going to love it too. Available to purchase exclusively from Watches of Switzerland for $7,950, please get in touch immediately to reserve yours now and avoid disappointment.

Thank you again for all your support over the last twenty years and here’s to many, many more.
